I am deeply disappointed in our government's lack of response to the concerns raised by the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) and industry stakeholders on behalf of every Canadian. This silence speaks volumes about how the rights of Canadian citizens – our rights – are being overlooked by our government.

Not to revisit the facts that we are all aware of about the proposed regulatory changes, including stringent labelling requirements and a burdensome cost recovery program, are set to impose overwhelming financial burdens on businesses within the natural health product (NHP) sector. What is alarming is that we may witness over 75% of brands forced to pull products from our market and some are seriously considering exiting Canada. It is not only alarming but also profoundly frustrating.

As Canadians, we rely on NHPs to maintain our health and wellbeing and not just a matter of market dynamics; it is about our health, our choices, and our right to access the products we trust and depend on.

Moreover, the over-regulation could stifle innovation and competitiveness within our industry to our benefit, yes, us citizens. Higher prices and reduced availability of compliant products, while unmonitored international products flood our market without facing the same scrutiny. Bravo for the best service Health Canada!

As a Canadian citizen, I feel that my rights are not being honoured by my government. The lack of response and engagement from Health Canada is not just disappointing – it is a disregard for the health and wellbeing of Canadians and the future of our natural health product industry.
